Odisha athletes Bonita Lakra and Bighnaraj Miridia bagged four medals each in the World Police & Fire Games 2017, held in Los Angeles, USA from August 7 to 15, 2017. Bonita secured one gold, two silver and one bronze, while Bighnaraj pocketed two gold and two bronze in the biennial games.
Competing in women’s 18-29 age group, Bonita won the gold in 400m relay event and the bronze in in 100m hurdles, clocking 18.22 seconds. She captured the two silver in 100m and 200m sprint events with timings of 12.39s and 26.29s respectively. Bonita also took part in shot put but finished 7th, throwing the iron ball to a distance of 8.57 metre.
Bighnaraj, who entered the fray in men’s 18-29 age bracket, bagged the two gold medals in 400m run (48.82s) and 4x400m relay events. His two bronze medals came in 400m hurdles (56.84s) and 200m (22.68s) events.
